This week in TriStar we have started a unit on transformations in math. Students are flipping, sliding, and turning shapes. We are continuing to learn about Greek mythology and how authors like Rick Riordan turn these ancient stories into modern day tales. Team building time consists of building parachutes to land the Easter eggs safely to Earth. Stay tuned for the drop on Monday. Finally, we played with polymers in science and puppies at the Humane Society. See all the pictures below. Have a great weekend!

Lots going on in TriStar this week: Parcc testing, punch card reward to see Beauty and the Beast, parent/teacher conferences, and of course all the things we have learned and studied. Today students who attended school were show appreciation with donuts. We love to reward kiddos who come to school regularly and on time. :) After donuts, we got the opportunity to participate in a webinar sponsored by the National World War II Museum on the race to build the atomic bomb. Students who participated could view primary resources, ask questions, and see all the components that went into this massive invention. Last week we ended with a full day of team building and school unity activities. Here's what TriStar had to say about the day: "I liked that we got to communicate with everyone in the school. Everyone learned something new about another person and that's really good. We got to understand how other people felt as well as understanding why we liked it more too." "I liked how we all worked together to do each activity." "(I liked) how we got to work on our socializing skills." "(I liked) how we got to get into a group with people we have never talked to and then talk to then about what we thought about respect and things like that." Everyone made an effort to learn about their peers and teachers. We are looking forward to more opportunities to get to know each other. This week TriStar has started Parcc testing. This is the standardized testing that is done throughout the state to see how far students have grown in their academics. We encourage students to be well-rested, get a good breakfast, and be at school on-time ready to do their best! We are back at it in TriStar: half way through a full week of school with lots to look forward to. This Friday, our school will participate in Unity Day. It is designed to get students working together to create a climate of success and acceptance in our building. TriStar is not new to team building as we have focused on it every day. Students have dedicated team building times to learning, growing, and serving our community. Pictured below is an activity that the whole class had to work together to achieve a common goal. Check back to see pictures and read about all the events we participated in for Unity Day.
Also, be sure to check out the student blogs listed in the "Student" tab. Password: tristar2017. They are doing amazing things with these! A cool website to check out when it comes to students and technology is Kevin Honeycutt's site. We got the honor of listening to Mr. Honeycutt at our ICEARY conference this past week. kevinhoneycutt.org/ |
