This week we only have 3 school days, but we are getting a lot done. Students are finishing up the novel they are reading, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor. We are also working on art projects, finishing up a persuasive essay, and working on our blogs or research papers. While students are relaxing from all this hard work, staff will be attending our annual ICEARY conference. All four teachers will be presenting on ways we have "ditched the textbook" in our classrooms. If you don't know what ICEARY is or does, I encourage you to check out their website here: iceary.net/
Relax and enjoy...see you on Monday!

Another week is in the books in TriStar, and students who blog have another post for you viewing enjoyment. We have had a busy week of learning and service, and students are looking forward to a 3 day week next week. Below is a picture of students who participated in Project Linus. This organization makes and donates blankets to children who are in need of a little extra support and caring.
Students spent last week making final edits to their blogs, and most of them got them published. Those students whose blogs were published were added to the "Students" page on the website along with a link to their blog. All blogs are password protected, so your student will need to give you his/her password so that you can explore what he/she has been up to. This is an exciting next step for students, and they have worked very hard to create these. Be sure to check them out and leave encouraging comments.
Here in TriStar we are trying to incorporate technology in the classroom, but the key is doing that in a meaningful way. As part of that initiative, students have the opportunity to create their own blogs. Students who gained permission from parents and guardians have already begun the journey of navigating through the internet. They will be researching and sharing about a topic that means a lot to them. They hope to publish these blogs every Friday staring February 17th. Be on the look out for links to these in our "Student" section.
